History and Background
Luis Miguel, a PhD and former localization engineer at Sybase, founded Avantpage in 1996. Luis perceived a niche for Avantpage as a multilingual formatting service provider for other translation companies. At the time, most language companies were incapable of supporting Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Arabic, Hebrew, and other non-Roman languages on their computer systems. With his expertise in computer systems and foreign scripts, Luis positioned Avantpage as THE expert in multilingual desktop publishing, tackling any language. Over the next decade, Avantpage expanded its staff, linguists, engineers, project managers and services to become a full-fledged language company specializing in localization, interpretation, translation, and multilingual DTP. Today Avantpage has over 200 freelancers in the Americas, Europe, Asia, the Middle East, and Africa, serving several industries in over 50 languages: government, education, games, financial, insurance, human resources, manufacturing, medical, healthcare, pharmaceutical, and technology.
We have successfully completed both statewide and national contracts, partnering with government and private entities such as the California Board of Equalization, the California Department of Managed Healthcare, LeapFrog Enterprises, School Innovations & Advocacy, Wizards of the Coast, T-Mobile, M&R Sales and Service, Crocker/Flanagan Public Relations, Stanislaus County, Caltrans, Great West Retirement Services, and many more.
