About our CEO
In 1996, Luis Miguel - a PhD in computer science from UC Berkley and a software engineer - founded Avantpage. As an industry expert, Luis has a deep understanding of language technologies, translation, interpretation and the cultural issues involved. He has written articles for the American Translators Association (ATA) Journal, given talks at ATA conferences, and chaired panels for the Translation Company Division of the ATA.
Avantpage is an extension of Luis’s personal and professional beliefs, a core set of values endorsed and practiced by the company: personal service, integrity, linguistic competency and the profound sense of joy that comes from helping others succeed while working in an industry you are passionate about. Under Luis’s credible leadership and expert direction, Avantpage has achieved an unequaled standard of excellence that includes assessing trends, developing new technologies, implementing the latest methodologies, and providing industry-leading service.
Born and raised in Mexico, Luis immigrated to the United States, a citizen of the world—the son of Mexican parents and grandson to Lebanese grandparents. Today, he is a proud father of three sons. As a constant, driving presence in their lives, Luis teaches his boys to be principled - to live life with honesty and to develop their talents to benefit the greater good, serving others in thoughtfully chosen social causes. As such, Miguel is President of the Board of the Davis Bridge Educational Foundation—a non-profit organization designed to support students from low-income and Spanish-speaking households in the Davis community.
Luis’s passion for life and his dedication to his family, employees and clients make Avantpage an industry leader—one deeply reflective of its owner and his values.
